Lighting Retrofit Case Study

United Valve

As a leading repair services provider in the U.S., United Valve leverages advanced equipment daily to drive operations. When it came to illuminating their 60,000 sq. ft. facility, they leveraged the expertise of US LED without hesitation.

The Opportunity

Located in Houston, the heart of the Texas refining and petrochemical belt, United Valve is a trusted international provider of repair and testing services for some of the largest manufacturers in the world. Since 1961, when they first resold surplus valves, they have prided themselves on delivering virtually any type of valve service in-house, with work performed by experienced technicians and skilled craftsmen.

To accommodate its rapid growth, the company moved into a 60,000 sq. ft. complex in 2004 that houses innovative equipment to support its OEMs and end-users. Unfortunately, the facility lighting did not keep up with the same operational excellence they provide their customers. Lighting conditions deteriorated in critical areas, and visibility diminished, causing safety concerns. The United Valve team quickly searched for new lighting solutions that could complement their high standards and find a provider to meet the logistical challenge of installing them without interrupting operations.

The Solution

After evaluating several manufacturers, the administrators at United Valve decided to partner with US LED because of their ExsaBay XLE LED high bay, which exceeded the project specifications and provided the best value. Moreover, its Ten-Year Warranty and ultra-long product lifetime sealed the deal with United Valve’s stakeholders.

Upon approval, this ambitious project involved installing 115 ExsaBay XLE LED high bays to replace the outdated T5 fluorescent fixtures. At 200W each, these high bays are tailored for substantial mounting heights and produce over 30,100 lumens, ensuring the necessary lighting for employee tasks. Most importantly, these high bays offer increased illumination while consuming less energy than the traditional fluorescent option.

The Benefits

The upgraded LED lighting has had a substantial positive impact on employee safety, morale, and operational productivity. Furthermore, the enhanced and uniform lighting has significantly improved overall visibility within the facility. Light levels in numerous areas have doubled to an average of 66 footcandles, with critical areas experiencing a threefold increase to over 100 footcandles.

Beyond the lighting improvement, United Valve employees have expressed how much safer they feel moving around the complex and how it’s made them feel more productive and engaging overall. With the added benefits of an ultra-long lifetime and a Ten-Year Warranty, the worry of replacing burned-out fluorescent lamps or ballasts is a thing of the past, ensuring issue-free lighting for years to come.
